HARRISBURG - A state prison inmate has been convicted of assaulting a man seven years ago and later trying to hire his cellmate to kill the victim and his half-brother.

Jurors in Cumberland County deliberated for less than three hours Friday before convicting 46-year-old Lance Greenawalt of aggravated assault, attempted homicide and solicitation to commit criminal homicide.

Greenawalt, who will be sentenced April 16, is currently serving 4½ to 13 years in an unrelated burglary case.

Prosecutors cited wiretapped recordings from the cell and other evidence such as hand-drawn maps.

Greenawalt acknowledged in court Thursday that he had made the statements but it was all part of a "stupid, idiotic stunt."

Defense attorney Michael Rentschler also attacked the other inmate's credibility, saying he had been convicted of falsely making similar allegations earlier.
