Police in Hanover are investigating an attempted child luring Wednesday as a 14-year-old girl was walking near York and Middle streets around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The girl was walking in the 200 block of York Street, near East Middle Street when she saw a vehicle traveling slowly beside her, police said.

As she continued to walk eastward, a male driver started talking to her through an open passenger side window, asking if she needed a ride, police said.

She declined and continued walking, but the driver told the girl to "get in the car." She ran home and reported the incident to her parents, police said.

The vehicle is described as being a newer model gray or silver Jeep Wrangler with a hard top, with black interior and black tinted windows.

The driver is described as being a white male, 50-to-60 years old, heavy set, with a full gray beard and possibly a moustache, police said.

The man was mostly bald with grayish hair on the sides of his head, wearing a white T-shirt and thin-framed glasses with oval-shaped lenses.

He was last known to be traveling east in the 200 block of York Street after the incident.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information about the vehicle or driver to contact the police department at 717-637-5575.
