A York City woman gunned down early Wednesday morning was not the target of gunfire, according to York City Police, who said they have arrested her killer.

Monique Nixon, 49, of East Market Street, was shot about 3:30 a.m. while at the corner of South Queen and East Princess Streets, Capt. Russ Tschopp said.

"We're still investigating, but we don't believe she was the intended target," he said. "All we know is she wasn't involved."

At 1 p.m., city detectives had a man in custody, the captain said.

Christopher Lee Schwenk Jr., 25, of 148 N. Newberry St., will be charged with homicide, according to Tschopp.

Argument: According to the captain, Schwenk's girlfriend got into a domestic dispute with her former boyfriend, Eddie Gallon III, at the corner of South Queen Street and Hope Avenue.

Eddie Gallon III is being sought for questioning.

The woman had an active protection-from-abuse order against Gallon, police said.

That's about a half-block away from where Nixon was standing, Tschopp said.

Schwenk had been inside a nearby home and went outside to confront Gallon, according to the captain.

That's when a witness reported hearing gunfire, Tschopp said.

Stray bullet? Nixon apparently was struck by the errant bullet, police said.

An autopsy Wednesday at Allentown's Lehigh Valley Hospital determined she died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to the York County Coroner's Office, which has ruled Nixon's death a homicide.

Gallon left the scene, and Schwenk and his girlfriend went back inside the home they had been in, police said.

Gallon, 35, of the first block of North Queen Street, is being sought for questioning, Tschopp said.

Anyone with information about either the homicide or Gallon's whereabouts is asked to call city detectives at 849-2219, or call the city's anonymous crime tip line, 849-2204. Or anonymously text a tip to YORKTIPS at 847411.
