Southwestern Regional Police on Monday morning released the names of two Hanover-area people killed Sunday afternoon when their car struck a backhoe on Route 116 in Heidelberg Township.

Roy Kline Jr., 86, and Lorraine Kline, 85, both of Northview Drive in Penn Township, were pronounced dead at the scene of the 5 p.m. crash, Southwestern Chief Greg Bean said.

The driver of the backhoe - a 17-year-old boy who lives near the crash site - suffered minor injuries, Bean said. He did not require medical attention, according to police

The Klines were traveling westbound toward Hanover when the large backhoe pulled into the path of the couple's Subaru sedan, which struck the backhoe on the left side, according to police.

The crash happened between Iron Ridge and Jacobs Mill roads, police said.

Bean said a full crash reconstruction is being done to determine more details about the accident.

Autopsies on the Klines were set for 10 a.m. Monday at Allentown's Lehigh Valley Hospital, according to the York County Coroner's Office.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Officer Shaun Dickmyer at (717) 225-1333, ext. 113, or call 911.
