Two schools in the Red Lion Area School District received the Governor's Award of Excellence from Gov. Tom Corbett on Tuesday.

Pleasant View Elementary School and Locust Grove Elementary School were presented a banner for their academic performance.

Pleasant View Elementary School attained 95.2 on the 2012-13 School Performance Profile -- the highest in the district and the sixth highest of all 116 public schools in York County. Locust Grove Elementary School followed with a score of 92.9.

The school performance profiles rate schools based on test scores and other factors, including graduation, attendance and promotion rates.

Corbett also previewed one of his education proposals for the upcoming 2014-15 state budget.

The Governor's Expanding Excellence Program would provide competitive funding to schools that have attained a 90 or higher on the School Performance Profile and are willing to analyze and share best practices that have proven to raise student achievement.
