A 16-year-old York City youth is expected to survive after being shot in the buttocks about 9:45 p.m. Monday, police said.

According to York City Police Capt. Tim Utley, two men flagged down a patrol officer and told them someone had been shot, then directed the officer to a home in the 400 block of West Princess Street.

A man was standing in front of the home and yelled to the officer that the shooting victim — his cousin — was inside.

Officers found the shooting victim lying facedown on the living-room floor of his cousin's home, Utley said. The teen, whose name has not been released, was taken to York Hospital by ambulance, he said.

The teen told police he was running when he was shot, according to Utley; police are still trying to determine details.

The victim's cousin told police he heard three or four gunshots and looked outside to see what happened, then saw his cousin slumped over, Utley said.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call city detectives at (717) 849-2219, or call the city's anonymous crime tip line, (717) 849-2204. Or anonymously text a tip to YORKTIPS at 847411.
