The state Wednesday honored Voith Turbo, Inc., in Manchester Township with the Governor's Award for Safety Excellence.

The award recognizes 10 employers across Pennsylvania that have demonstrated a tangible commitment to worker health and safety.

Voith Turbo has undertaken ergonomic design of its tools and methods; constructed special carts for holding and transporting large equipment; and replaced irritant-containing cleaning solutions with ultrasonic solutions that result in less physical labor, said award presenter Gene Connell, the state's deputy secretary of workers' compensation.

"You are the best of the best. You are in the elite group of awardees," he said to a crowd of more than 130 company employees.

The company has gone 866 days without a lost-time worker injury, said chief administrative officer Norm Boisvert.

"A number I expect will continue to rise in the next few months and years," he said.
