HARRISBURG - Pentecostal minister Max Myers is dropping out of the Democratic race for Pennsylvania governor.

The 60-year-old Mechanicsburg resident told The Associated Press on Monday he's decided he cannot raise money necessary to be competitive or gather enough petition signatures to get his name on the May 20 ballot.

Myers, who was running his first election campaign, says he does not plan to run for governor or another public office in the future. He says he became interested in running for governor five years ago but has decided the campaign was "a mountain too big for us to climb."

Myers' withdrawal leaves seven other candidates vying for the Democratic nomination, including York County businessman Tom Wolf.
