A popular York City bakery and cafe is relocating.

Ladybug Baking Company & Cafe will open its doors at 33 N. Beaver St. for the last time on Saturday, March 15.

It will reopen May 1 at 312 N. Bridge St. in New Cumberland.

"I think New Cumberland is a better setting for us, with a laid-back atmosphere and the convenience of free parking," said owner Jessica Brooks.

Also appealing to Brooks is New Cumberland's one-screen, retro theater and "a real need for a coffee shop."

"I also get to concentrate on custom cakes, which is where my real passion lies," she said.

Ladybug will continue to offer vegan and gluten-fee choices on a set menu of sandwiches "and other goodies," Brooks said.

Brooks, a York resident, said leaving downtown won't be easy.

"I am really going to miss our daily patrons, but the hope is that they will visit us in our new location on weekends," she said.

The bakery will deliver cake and specialty orders to York and the rest of southcentral Pennsylvania, Brooks said.

"I owe a major thank you to our customers. This has been an amazing year, and I've gotten to know some amazing people," she said.
