Two York County manufacturers are closing operations this year, starting a round of job cuts later this spring that will eliminate 144 local jobs.

American Signature Inc. and Souriau have filed notices with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry to inform state officials about the impending job loss.

There are no labor unions at either company, and none of their workers have bumping rights, according to the notices.

Some 91 employees will lose their jobs when American Signature closes its facility at 325 S. Salem Church Road in West Manchester Township. On June 6, the Ohio-based furniture company will begin terminating all positions.

Soriau, a part maker serving defense and commercial sectors, is consolidating its local manufacturing operations into other facilities owned by its parent company Esterline, a defense contractor based in Bellevue, Wash.

When the company closes its York County location at 25 Grumbacher Road in Manchester Township, 53 employees will lose their jobs while a few sales and marketing positions will be spared.

Company representatives did not return calls seeking information about the reason for the closures.
