The SPCA of York County is having a cat adoption party Saturday in Manchester Township.

"Cinco de Meow" will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the SPCA's Brougher Companion Animal Shelter at 3159 Susquehanna Trail North.

Up to 40 cats will be available for adoption. Attendees can visit the shelter's cat condo to pick which animal they would like to adopt, said Melissa Smith, SPCA's executive director.

The cat party also celebrates the animals' success in completing treatment for ringworms. They were submerged in sulfurated lime dip twice a week for five weeks, Smith said.

Adoption applications will be done Saturday, and it is "highly likely" applicants can be approved and be allowed to take cats home that day, Smith said.

Residents with landlords should make sure cats are allowed in their dwelling places, she said.

If an adopted cat cannot be taken home Saturday, the new owners can make plans to pick up the animal on another day, Smith said.

For information, call the SPCA at 764-6109.
