A portion of Route 30 westbound in Hellam Township will be closed this weekend as a construction crew repairs a sinkhole.

The sinkhole is located near the Shoe House Road overpass, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation.

During the closure, which starts at 8 p.m. Friday, a detour that follows the Hallam Exit to Route 462 via Kreutz Creek Road will be in place.

The work is part of a $3.4 million project to repair and resurface a roughly 4-mile stretch of Route 30 from North Hills Road in Springettsbury Township to the area of the sinkhole.

Kinsley Construction was contracted to take on the work, which includes sinkhole and base repair, line painting, new signs, milling and resurfacing, the release says.

Once the sinkhole is repaired, crews will change to working nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., the release says.

The project is expected to be finished in September 2015.
