A fire destroyed a Chanceford Township barn on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the 4200 block of Old Bridgeville Road a little after 1 p.m. and had the blaze under control within an hour, said Terry Snelbaker, deputy chief of New Bridgeville Memorial Fire Co.

Nine other fire companies assisted New Bridgeville at the scene, he said, and crews had to be rotated to keep everybody fresh in the midday heat.

Trooper Brad Dunham, a state police fire marshal, Tuesday determined the cause of the fire to be accidental, Snelbaker said.

Snelbaker could not provide a damage estimate but said the barn was burned down to its foundation.

"There wasn't much left of it," he said.

No one was hurt at the scene, and although livestock live in the barn, they were out to pasture when the fire happened, he said.
