HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania's governor says an overhaul of public pensions would make him "much, much, much, much, much more open" to the possibility of raising taxes to balance the state budget.

Republican Gov. Tom Corbett told The Associated Press on Thursday that he also won't consider a tax on Marcellus Shale natural gas extraction without changes to the state-owned liquor system.

Corbett says budget talks are about 30 percent done, with four days remaining until the state government's new fiscal year begins.

The state House passed a budget Wednesday night, but Corbett says the final product will look much different.

He says the pension issue isn't going away, and policy makers need to make changes to relieve the burden on taxpayers.
