The Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area encourages paddlers of all ages and abilities to participate in the second annual Susquehanna Gateway Flatwater Challenge on Saturday, July 19, at Indian Steps Museum on Lake Aldred on the Susquehanna Rive, near Airville.

Last year, 76 paddlers participated in the first Flatwater Challenge and included serious competitors as well as family and friends just out to enjoy the river at Indian Steps.

The purpose of this event is to promote the awareness and recreational use of the Lower Susquehanna and appreciation of its history.

The Flatwater Challenge includes three courses on the river: a 1.3-mile short course for novices; a 4.5-mile course and an 8.4-mile long course.

Race registration and check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Canoes and kayaks will be launched adjacent to the lawn at Indian Steps with the long course launching first at 10 a.m.
