Hellam Township Police and state police are investigating the Route 30 crash that killed Jack Mason III, 52, and Jerry Eady, 36, both of West Manchester Township.

The Kinsley Construction work van the men were in was westbound on the highway when its driver, Luis Behrensen, 29, of Red Lion, lost control of the van for unknown reasons. The van clipped a pickup truck before it rolled off the highway about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Hellam Township Police said.

Eady and Mason, who were passengers, who thrown from the van and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Behrensen and a third passenger, Manuel Orellana, 42, of Hanover, were taken to York Hospital for treatment.

As of Wednesday night, Behrensen and Orellana were listed as being in stable condition, a hospital spokesman said.

Pickup truck driver Robert Light, 66, of Abbottstown, was not injured in the crash.

State police troopers have reconstructed the crash, and local police have interviewed witnesses a second time, said Police Chief Mark Sowers.

"They said the van just all of the sudden veered," he said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Hellam Township Police at (717) 434-1300.
