The York Airport in Thomasville is receiving $450,000 from PennDOT's aviation development program to design and rehabilitate the facility's runway.

The project, part of a $3.4 million investment in state aviation, was announced by Gov. Tom Corbett on Monday. It is one of 20 facilities across the state getting money from the program.

The money, which comes mostly from jet fuel tax increases, complements a concurrent state investment in airports funded by the Act 89 gas tax increases.

York Airport, located at 6054 Lincoln Highway West, is a privately owned, public-use airport.

Design on the project is expected to start this fall, with construction happening next year, according to Tim Tate, vice president of the York Aviation Operators.
