A former Maryland man who allegedly set fire to 250 hay bales inside the Gettysburg National Military Park was indicted on federal charges on Wednesday, according to the U.S. District Attorney's Office in Harrisburg.

A grand jury indicted 41-year-old Gary L. DuRocher on simple assault and felony malicious mischief charges, a news release from the attorney's office says.

The charges stem from the Aug. 8 incident that allegedly began with DuRocher pulling a boy from a vehicle at the Eternal Light Peace Memorial.

Park officials say DuRocher left the scene on foot but after a large search, he was arrested on the Gettysburg College campus.

He's accused of igniting the hay fire near Biglerville Road.

DuRocher is also charged with sending threatening texts to an ex-girlfriend during the incident.

DuRocher, who has been detained since he was charged Aug. 11, is expected to be arraigned on the charges Thursday morning, the release says.
