If you want to park in parts of West York you've got to rummage through your pockets for loose change.

Borough police have started to enforce metered parking this week, nearly two months after the meters were reinstalled.

Metered parking along a roughly four-block stretch of West Market Street from the borough line with York City to Seward Street is being enforced from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

Metered parking will not be enforced on holidays.

In September, the sitting council narrowly voted to remove the 149 meters in the borough. But a new council seated in January reversed that decision.

The meters were put back up in June but motorists didn't have to slug them because the council had to decide on enforcement times. The borough also had to order new stickers that state parking enforcement hours and had put them on the meters.
