After serving as Hanover Hospital's president and chief executive officer for the past three years, George M. Kyriacou announced his resignation Monday.

Kyriacou will continue fulfilling his duties as the hospital's president and CEO through Nov. 8, said hospital spokeswoman Lisa Duffy.

The announcement came after Kyriacou accepted a position with a specialty hospital in his home state of Connecticut. The relocation will allow him to be closer to his family and friends, said Duffy.

The board of directors' executive committee met to review Hanover Hospital's transition strategy, and Duffy said the hospital will use a search firm for recruiting the new CEO, although it's unclear when the process will begin taking place.

Kyriacou been instrumental in positioning the hospital to be successful with the upcoming healthcare reform initiatives, said Jill Rohrbaugh, chair of the board of directors.

"We wish him and his family well," said Rohrbaugh.
