A York City man escaped life-threatening injuries Sunday night when he was shot in the leg, police said.

Ethan Fountain, 18, of Park Street, was shot in the upper left thigh about 9:30 p.m. as he was walking on West Maple Street near the South Pershing Avenue intersection, York City Police said.

Officers were called to York Hospital after Fountain showed up at the emergency room for treatment, police said. His hospital condition could not be obtained.

Fountain told officers he'd been visiting people who live in the area and was walking home when he heard a gunshot and was shot, police said.

He told officers he didn't see anyone or any vehicles in the area and was unsure what direction the bullet came from, police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call city detectives at 849-2219.
