An apparel chain later this month will close two stores in the York Galleria, making way for the mall's seventh shoe store.

Gap and GapKids will close Jan. 26, a store employee said.

Signs hung among colorful clothes in the retailer's window displays explain the shops are closing, directing customers to Gap stores at Park City Center in Lancaster County.

"I'm sad to see it go," said Jess D'Amico, who described herself as a loyal shopper of the Gap brand for her two young children. "I stop here all the time. The clothes are so cute, and I will really miss it."

D'Amico said she will continue to shop at Gap stores when she goes to Park City or browses websites on her phone.

"I can still shop online, and I'm sure I will," she said.

Company executives didn't return correspondence seeking comment about why the stores are closing.

After Gap stores close, Encore Shoes will open in their place on the first floor of the mall, said Lucinda Hartshorne, general manager of the York Galleria.
