McSHERRYSTOWN -- You can add another girls' basketball championship to York Catholic's growing collection.

The Lady Irish outlasted rival Delone Catholic on Tuesday night in overtime, 48-43.

York Catholic (21-1 overall) earned the outright York-Adams League Division IV crown at 13-0. Delone dropped to 17-5 and 11-2. The Irish have now won three straight outright Division IV titles. Delone finished second each year. The two teams shared the title in 2009-2010. In the four years before that, Delone took the Division IV crown.

York Catholic jumped out to a 15-6 lead after one quarter and still led 21-12 at halftime. Delone, however, stormed back with a 13-4 third-quarter surge to tie things up at 25-25. Both teams scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to send the contest into overtime, when York Catholic took the victory with a 12-7 edge. Delone led 43-40 with 1:34 left in the OT, but York Catholic ended the game on an 8-0 run.

Morgan Klunk poured in 24 points for the Irish, while Maddie Comly pumped in 22 points for Delone.

Both teams will now advance to the league playoffs, which start Friday. Delone will face Dallastown in its opener at 6:30 p.m. at Dover, while York Catholic faces Red Lion at 8 p.m. at Dover.


York Catholic and Red Lion faced off for the tournament title a year ago, with Red Lion rolling to a 61-35 triumph.
