Construction work is set to start Monday to realign and reconstruct a section of Cool Creek Road in Lower Windsor Township, near East Prospect, PennDOT said.

The nearly $3 million contract was awarded to Kinsley Construction Inc. and includes the design and realignment of a section of the road, excavation and removal of the existing structures, installation of two pre-cast concrete box culverts, road reconstruction, drainage improvements and installation of guardrails, signs and new traffic lines, PennDOT said.

Cool Creek Road will be closed to through traffic from 9 p.m. Monday through December between Adams and Nursery roads, the agency said.

The work is expected to be done by the end of 2013. Until then, a detour will be in place.

Kinsley Construction is expected to resurface the road in the spring or early summer of 2014, PennDOT said.

Cool Creek Road averages 4,480 vehicles a day.

The existing structure that carries Cool Creek Road over an unnamed tributary of the Canadochly Creek was built in 1933 and is considered functionally obsolete, PennDOT said.
