Two armed robbers got more than they bargained for Saturday night when they held up a neighborhood store owned by a gun owner, police said.

York City Police said Genesis Daivelle Benitez, 21, of 266 W. Cottage Place, will survive her gunshot wound. She was shot either in her lower back or buttocks.

She was arrested after officers followed a blood trail, then got a tip from a passer-by that Benitez was lying in a breezeway in the 300 block of East Prospect Avenue, according to Lt. Tim Utley, who supervises the detective bureau.

Benitez was arrested and taken to York Hospital, where she's being treated, police said. Her condition could not be obtained Monday morning.

Busted at hospital: Her boyfriend and alleged accomplice, Christopher Reid, 24, no address given, was arrested at the hospital after going there to check on her, according to Utley.

Reid is in York County Prison on $20,000 bail, charged with robbery and related offenses.

Benitez will be charged with the same offenses, Utley said.

According to Utley, Benitez and Reid walked into La Familia store, 350 Prospect St., about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. He was brandishing a gun while she was holding a bag for money, and both were wearing masks, Utley said.

Reid held the gun on store owner Domingo DeLeon, 35, and his employee, Juan Leon, 34, and demanded all the cash in the register, telling them he "wasn't playing," according to Utley.

Owner also armed: But Reid wasn't the only person inside the store with a gun, according to police.

After handing over the money in the cash register, DeLeon fired two rounds at them, Utley said. One of the bullets struck Benitez.

When officers tracked down and arrested Benitez, she was in possession of evidence from the robbery, according to Utley, who declined to elaborate.

When Reid was arrested at York Hospital, police learned he had outstanding warrants on an unrelated robbery charge as well as a probation violation, Utley said.
