Atlanta-based BWAY Corp. will break ground next month for a new warehouse in Springettsbury Township.

Construction will begin April 1 when Stewart & Tate Construction begins building a 60, 735-square-foot addition to the packaging facility's existing location.

Plans were approved last spring by township supervisors for the construction of a new warehouse at the company's 12.5 acre lot at 599 Davies Drive. Already on site is a 97,000-square-foot building used for manufacturing and office space, six truck docks, trailer storage and 74 parking spaces.

The plans, which were originally developed by Site Designs Concepts Inc., will add a 64-space parking lot, truck docks and paved areas for trailers in addition to the new warehouse.

Upon completion of the project, employees who are working at an outside warehouse seven miles away in York would be relocated to the Springettsbury Township site, a spokesman said.

BWAY operates 22 plants in the United States and Canada, and it uses its York County manufacturing facility to make paint and aerosol cans.
