A York City teenager escaped life-threatening injury when she was shot in the buttocks Sunday night.

The 16-year-old girl told officers she and a friend were near the corner of Broad and Prospect streets just before 9 p.m., talking with some boys, when they heard gunfire coming from a white car, according to York City Police.

The girl said she started running away and was shot in the left buttocks, police said; the white car was last seen heading westbound toward Pine Street.

The girl ran three or four blocks to her home, where family members drove her to York Hospital, according to police, who said she will survive her wound.

Police said it doesn't appear at this point the girl was the intended target. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call city detectives at 849-2219 or the city's anonymous crime tip line, 849-2204. Or text a tip to YORKTIPS at 847411.
