A Lancaster County man ended up wedging the farm tractor he was driving under the Rail Trail bridge in Seven Valleys after ignoring a state trooper and a fire police officer trying to stop him, police said.
R.B. Balmer, 46, of Manheim, escaped injury during Friday's 11:30 a.m. incident on Main Street at the Church Street intersection, according to state police.
Police said he was driving a farm tractor with field sprayer eastbound on Route 214, headed for the York County Heritage Rail Trail bridge. A trooper and a Stewartstown fire police officer realized what was going to happen and tried in vain to flag him down, police said.
Balmer wedged the tractor under the bridge, police said. He was able to back out and clear the bridge, which sustained minor damage.
Balmer was cited for disobeying a traffic-control sign or signal, police said.
