A 48-year-old Red Lion man fatally shot himself in public Tuesday afternoon following a domestic dispute.

The suicide happened just before 4 p.m. near the intersection of North Franklin and Maple Street area, according to York Area Regional Police.

Officers were dispatched after a woman called 911 saying the man was at her home and was upset, and that he had a handgun, police said.

While she was speaking with 911, the man left her home and walked east of West Maple Street.

Officers arrived in the area to find the man had already killed himself, police said.

The York Dispatch is withholding the man's name.
