JEFFERSON -- Manchester, stymied for five innings on Sunday afternoon, broke through for single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to force an extra inning in its Central League baseball game with Jefferson.

The Indians then scored three times in the eighth to earn a 5-2 victory.

Manchester, sitting in second place in the Central League standings just 11/2 games behind Stoverstown, improved to 17-11.

Josh Reeser ignited Manchester's eighth-inning rally with a double. Following a hit batsman and a walk to load the bases, Chris Biechler's infield single delivered the go-ahead run.

Trey McWilliams then supplied insurance with a two-run single.

McWilliams finished with three hits in four at bats. Austin Allison and Nick Shuman added two hits and an RBI apiece for the winners.

Manchester pitcher Mike Houseal, who went the distance, turned in an outstanding outing, holding Jefferson to just three hits. Houseal struck out two and walked four.


MOUNT WOLF 3, JEF FERSON 1: At Mount Wolf, the Wolves struck for two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to snap a 1-1 tie.

Mount Wolf's Jesse Sargen drilled a homer and went 2-for-3. Jordan Ely also had two hits for the Wolves.

Jim Volz collected two hits for Jefferson.

Adam Hoff bested Matt Gonzalez in a duel of veteran right-handers. Hoff allowed six hits, and Gonzalez yielded eight.


Both pitchers recorded three strikeouts and one walk.

PLEASUREVILLE 12, DOVER 4: At Dover, Pleasureville erupted for eight runs in the top of the seventh after Dover tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Hawks combined Scott Ream's triple with eight walks and an error in the deciding inning.

Tim Shaffer and Travis Shaffer teamed for five Pleasureville hits and two RBIs.

Shane Melhorn and Dustin Kuhn collected two hits each for Dover. Melhorn drove in two runs.

Connor Schweinebart checked Dover on five hits to pick up the victory. Schweinebart struck out four and walked three.
