A York County man remains missing on the Susquehanna River after an hours-long search for him ended at nightfall Sunday.

Crews are expected to resume the search for the unnamed man on Monday, said Jason Barclay, assistant chief of Maytown-East Donegal Township (Lancaster County) Fire Co.

The man went missing about 3 p.m. when the canoe he, his wife and their dog were in capsized just off shore from the Riverfront Park boat launch near Marietta.

The woman and dog were found safe, with the woman being treated at the scene by medics, Barclay said.

The couple was not wearing life vests.

Crews from York, Lancaster and Dauphin counties took part in the search that also included the shorelines. All told, nine boats were in the water during the search, Barclay said.

They focused their attention on rapids near a train bridge just north of Marietta. That area will again be the focus of the search when it resumes Monday.

The search was halted as darkness fell Sunday night.
