LITTLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- An Adams County man has told state police that he shot someone dead after the young man broke into his home and demanded OxyContin.

Police say troopers found 50-year-old John Fischback in his Littletown home Tuesday afternoon with a revolver in one hand and a telephone in the other. The body of 29-year-old Nicholas Anthony Smith, of Westminster, Md., was on the floor beside him with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Fischback told police that Smith demanded the powerful prescription painkiller, then threatened to kill him, so he pulled out the gun and shot Smith.

State police said Smith died at 3:27 p.m. Tuesday in the first block of Newark Street in the borough. Police said Fischback was treated for bruises and neck pain at a local hospital.

Police are asking anyone with any information about the incident to contact Pennsylvania State Police in Gettysburg, (717) 334-8111.
