The York College men's soccer team is ranked No. 4 in the latest NCAA Division III rankings.

On Wednesday, the Spartans lived up to that billing, rolling to a 3-0 victory over Alvernia in Reading.

The Spartans improved to 4-0, while Alvernia fell to 3-2. York dominated the action, outshooting Alvernia 18-5.

Brendan Saberton, Chris Weaver and Taylor Brummitt had York's goals, while Jake Hower chipped in an assist.

York has now outscored its four foes this year, 9-1.

The men's soccer team victory was just part of a highly successful day for the Spartans on Wednesday.

York women also win in soccer: The York women's soccer team also triumphed on Wednesday, beating McDaniel, 4-2, in Westminster, Md.

The Spartan women improved to 3-2 and handed McDaniel (3-1) its first loss of the season.

Jordan Neiheiser, Jamie Sokolis, Beth Bunn and Kayla Kovalsky scored for York, while Bunn and Taylor Folk added assists.

Hicks leads volleyball team: York Catholic High School graduate Brittany Hicks slammed a team-high 15 kills to go with 12 digs to power the York College women's volleyball team to a dramatic 25-27, 25-21, 25-17, 20-25, 16-14 non-league victory at Gettysburg College on Wednesday.

Allie Donahue (40 assists), Ijeoma Igwe (12 kills), Katie Huston (11 kills, 12 digs) and Katerine Graziano (26 digs) also excelled for York.


Spartans seventh at golf event: The York golf team finished seventh out of 18 teams on Wednesday at the Messiah Falcon Classic at Blue Ridge Country Club in Harrisburg.

York finished with a 324 total, 11 shots behind first-place Messiah. David Boslough led York with a 7-over-par 79.

Muhlenberg's Chris Lucarelli was the individual medalist with a 71.
