Three York College field hockey players were selected to the 2013 All-Capital Athletic Conference squads as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.

Seniors Kailey Brewer and Jillian Brezgel and junior Katie Petrillo each earned second team all-league honors for their efforts.

Brewer makes her second All-CAC appearance. She was a second team selection after her junior year. Brewer finished the season leading the Spartans in scoring with 23 points on 10 goals and three assists. She ranked 12th in the CAC in goals scored and 14th in points. Brewer closes out her Spartan career with 73 points on 29 goals and 15 assists in 71 career contests. She recorded five game-winning goals for the Spartans over her four-year career.

Brezgel makes her first All-CAC team appearance. The Spartan midfielder finished the campaign with 13 points on five goals and three assists. She tallied two of York's four game-winning goals. She concludes her Spartan career with 45 points on 19 goals and seven assists. Brezgel recorded seven game-winning goals during her Spartan tenure.

Petrillo made an impact on defense. She provided a boost to the Spartan offense as well. She tallied seven points on three goals and one assist. Two of her three goals were game-winners. Petrillo has played in 53 career games with 16 points on six goals and four assists.


YORK FRESHMAN VOL LEYBALL PLAYER HON ORED: York College freshman outside hitter Ijeoma Igwe has earned All-CAC honors.


Igwe was the lone Spartan to be recognized by the conference. She was a second team selection.

The freshman played in 31 of the Spartans' 32 matches. She registered a team-best 292 kills and hit .148 for the year. Igwe averaged 2.83 kills per set and she totaled a team-high 771 attempts for the year. She received serve at 88.1 percent while she also had 68 digs, 29 total blocks and seven assists.

Igwe established a career-high 17 kills in the Aug. 31 match against Swarthmore, while her career-high in attack percentage was .393 against St. Mary's on Oct. 17. She ranked second in the conference in kills per set while she was sixth in the league in total kills. She was one of six freshmen to earn All-CAC honors in 2013.

CENTRAL YORK GRAD HONORED: Central York High School graduate Trent Landis, a junior defender for the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team, was named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Third Team.

Landis played lockdown defense for the Lions in 2013. He was a key part of the team's four-game shutout streak, helping the squad post five shutouts in total throughout the regular season. He was recognized for his defensive play when he won the AMCC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 14. His lone goal, the first of his collegiate career, was a double overtime game-winner on a header against Mount Aloysius.

PENN STATE YORK WINS PAIR: The Penn State York basketball teams earned a pair of wins over Central Penn College on Tuesday night.

The PSY men triumphed, 95-90, while the PSY women won, 84-63.

The PSY men are now 2-0 on the season. It was the season opener for the PSY women.
