The York College wrestling team finished fifth out of 13 teams at their 2013 New Standard Corporation Invitational on Saturday at the M&T Bank Fieldhouse in the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center in York.

York accumulated 79.5 points for the day.

Johnson & Wales ended Ithaca's four-year run of championships as the Wildcats edged the Bombers 119.5-117.5. Delaware Valley finished third with 99 points while Brockport placed fourth with a team score of 94.5.

The Spartans had two wrestlers advance to the championship round of their weight class while they also had a third, two fifths and a pair of sixth-place finishes in the tournament.

York junior Joey Giaccio and freshman Nick Zak both advanced to the championships of their weight classes for the Spartans.

Giaccio began his trip through the 141-pound draw with a 17-3 major decision over Brockport's Peter Ottaviano in the opening round. Giaccio then recorded a tight 11-9 win over Johnson & Wales Matt Caracappa in the quarterfinals. Giaccio advanced to the championship with a 11-6 win over Williams' Carson Brooks. Johnson & Wales Michael Ferinde upended Giaccio in the finals as he earned a 5-3 win.

Zak made his first New Standard Invitational an impressive one en route to his second place finish at 184 pounds. Zak began his day with a 3-1 win over Ithaca's Liam Korbul in the opening round. He then notched a 17-1 tech fall over TCNJ's Ricky Cordero to advance to the semifinals. Zak continued to roll with a pin fall victory over Johnson & Wales' Jared Mesiti. Zak pinned Mesiti in a time of 4:04. Johnson & Wales Colin Lenhardt ended Zak's run with a 7-1 victory in the championship. Lenhardt is ranked ninth nationally.
