The York College women's basketball team remained unbeaten on Monday with a dominating 76-42 victory over Oglethorpe University in the second round of the Country Inn & Suites Holiday Classic in Atlanta.

The victory enabled the Spartans, who are ranked 19th in NCAA Division III, to capture the classic championship by virtue of their 2-0 record in the tournament.

The Spartans improved to 10-0 and picked up their third 30-plus-point victory of the year. The Stormy Petrels fall to 3-9. The tournament championship is York's second of the year.

Senior Brittany Hicks led the Spartans with her second straight double-double. The York Catholic High School graduate had 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in 24 minutes. Hicks also had two steals and two blocks. Fellow senior Kristen Haley added 11 points in 18 minutes, while sophomore Karli McFatridge notched 10 points on two 3-pointers and four free throws. McFatridge is also a York Catholic grad. The Spartans played the entire 16-player roster with 14 players finding the scoring column. Freshman Dalida Camdzic had a career-high eight points in nine minutes. Camdzic also had three rebounds.

The Spartan defense harassed the Stormy Petrels into 23.3 percent shooting from the floor and 13.8 percent (4-for-29) from 3-point range.


The Spartans are slated to return to action on Saturday when they jump back into conference play with a key contest at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg. The Eagles carry a 10-game win streak against York into the game. Tip time at Anderson Arena is 1 p.m.
