York College senior Tim Hartung closed out his outstanding collegiate career in late May. On Tuesday, Hartung collected another accolade when he was named a Capital One First Team Academic All-American.

The honor was announced by by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The Governor Mifflin High School graduate became just the second York College Spartan to earn first-team honors in school history.

Hartung was a seven-time NCAA Division III All-American (twice in cross country, twice in indoor track and field, and three times in outdoor track and field), a five-time All-Capital Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year, a four-time CAC men's cross country champion (undefeated in his CAC career), a 16-time CAC track and field (indoor and outdoor) champion and a two-time national Capital One Academic All-America.

Hartung boasts a 3.60 grade-point average in the York College nursing program.

Hartung joins former Spartan softball standout Harper Cornell as a First-Team Academic All-America. He is also just the third Spartan to earn national honors twice in his career. All-American women's soccer goalie Melanie Glessner (2012 and 2013) and basketball standout Brandon Bushey (2005 & 2006) are the other two Spartans to earn the academic honor twice in their careers.

Hartung's award caps an strong Academic All-America year for York. A school-record five Spartans earned national recognition. In addition to Hartung and Glessner, senior baseball shortstop Colin Porter earned second-team honors while men's lacrosse All-American Tyler Hutson and baseball All-CAC centerfielder Andrew Hershey each earned third-team honors.


York College now has 14 national Academic All-America student-athletes in school history.

Spartan head coach Stephen LoBianco was pleased to see Hartung earn more postseason hardware.

"Tim is very deserving of this accolade being a five-time All-American as a senior, as well as carrying a 3.6 GPA. Tim has always been dedicated in his athletics and academics. Him being named First Team Academic All-America is a great honor not only for Tim, but the York College cross country and track and field teams."
