Thumbs up: York Fair knows how to pick 'em.

Just weeks after local rockers Lzzy and Arejay Hale's band Halestorm won its first Grammy, officials announced they've booked the group for a homecoming performance at this year's York Fair.

The band, which also includes guitarist Joe Hottinger and bassist Josh Smith, will be headlining on the Toyota Grandstand, a stage where they last appeared as an opening act less than four years ago.

Halestorm won the 2013 Grammy for "Best Hard Rock and Metal" performance, besting legendary acts that included Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson, Anthrax, Lamb of God and Megadeth.

Fair general manager Mike Froehlich said the group, which formed in Red Lion, will perform on the Toyota Grandstand on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 7:30 p.m.

Halestorm got its start in Red Lion about 15 years ago, when Lzzy and Arejay Hale first took the stage as kids. The two siblings cut their musical teeth playing at places like the York Fair and the Tourist Inn in Hellam Township.

Thumbs down: To Caterpillar Inc., which has been giving local business leaders the silent treatment as they try to convince the Illinois-based manufacturer to keep its York Distribution Center open.

Late last month Caterpillar officials confirmed they're contemplating a sourcing decision to move or shift the processing of dealer stock and emergency parts orders to another facility in the eastern United States.

Since then, local officials have reached out to the company, hoping to keep the plant's 250 jobs in the region, according to Mike Smeltzer, executive director of the Manufacturers' Association of South Central Pennsylvania.

"At this point, they don't want to engage in any formal dialogue with any members of the community," he said.

Company spokesman Jim Dugan said in an email Caterpillar intends to finalize the decision by the end of March. If the company closes the York facility, the move would take effect in 2014, he said.

Dugan would not say why the move is being considered, and Smeltzer said he hasn't been able to get a reason either.
