The South Eastern school board voted to appoint Richard Magnifico to a vacancy on the school board Thursday night.

Last month, board member Karrie Strickland announced she is moving out of the district and would have to leave her seat.

That prompted the board to hold interviews with the two people interested in the position - Magnifico and John Johnson - earlier this month.

They selected Magnifico, who is from New Hampshire, where he worked for the school system for 10 years. He moved to the area in May.

While in New Hampshire, Magnifico served as an assistant superintendent and primarily handled financial operations, said Rona Kaufmann, superintendent at the South Eastern School District.

Magnifico has three children.

Johnson worked as a teacher for the South Eastern School District for many years in several different buildings and retired in 2005.

He is a Peach Bottom Township supervisor and would not have been able to serve on the board until his term expires in January.

Board member Jennifer Tobias encouraged him to run for the school board when he is eligible in the future.
