The Great Chapel Picnic returns Saturday in Chapel UMC's newly renovated parish hall in the church grove, 3050 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion.

The picnic is one of the longest running church picnics in the area, beginning in the late 1800s as an outdoor picnic supper for the congregation. The picnic has grown into an annual community event featuring gospel groups and a local band performing throughout the afternoon and evening. Also featured is a large bazaar stand with many hand-crafted items, plus flowers and produce, ChapelSauce and Chow-Chow made by church members, and several food stands.

The main dining room seating opens at 3 p.m. Carry-out soups (chicken corn or clam) are available at 2 p.m. Bring your own containers. Ticket sales for the dining room cafeteria line as well as the musical entertainment and bazaar stands also begin at 2 p.m.

Lawn chairs are suggested for seating in the church grove. The picnic will be held rain or shine.

Handicap and special needs parking is provided in the main parking lot. Other parking is available to the rear of the church property and on the south side of the parish building.
