Santa Claus is coming to Glen Rock.

He is expected to arrive at 5:45 p.m. Sunday to light up the borough's decorated Christmas tree next to the Glen Rock Ambulance Club facility at 59 Water St., according to Carlynn Scott, a Codorus Township resident who is helping organize the event.

To prepare for Santa's arrival, attendees will gather at 5:15 p.m. to hear a performance from the Chanticleer Choir of Susquehannock High School. Then the Steam into History Train will arrive with Santa aboard, said Scott, who also leads two Girl Scout troops that are hosting the event.

The troops meet at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glen Rock, and this is their third year participating in the tree-lighting event, Scott said.

"They're going to gain leadership skills and learn public speaking skills and organization skills through this experience," Scott said. "They'll help announce what's going on. They'll be running games, helping Santa and helping with the food."

They also will prepare the gift bags that Santa will give to the children, she said. Last year, gift bags were given to 100 children, according to Scott.

This year, event attendees are asked to bring canned goods that will be donated to a local food bank.

The Christmas tree lighting event brings the community together and provides an activity families can do together, Scott said.

"Some kids don't get to see Santa," she added. "This (event) gives them a chance to talk to Santa and take pictures with him."
