On Wednesday, York City School District officials approved the 90-day expulsion of a first-grade student who brought an unloaded gun to school May 6.

In addition to homebound instruction, the student will be required to receive professional counseling, according to a resolution approved by the district's school board.

On May 6, another student saw the weapon on the floor of the Jackson K-8 cafeteria during breakfast. The student informed a teacher, who alerted school police officers.

The building at 177 E. Jackson St. was put on lockdown for about 90 minutes while district officials investigated.
