York College has been selected to host the 2014 NCAA Division III Mideast Wrestling Regional on Sunday, March 2.

The event will be held in the M&T Bank Fieldhouse in the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center. The regional championship will feature 18 teams and 180 wrestlers as they attempt to qualify for the 2014 Division III National Championships, set for March 14-15 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The national championships are being hosted by Cornell College in Iowa.

The top three finishers in the 10 weight classes advance from the regional to the national championships.

"We are honored to have been selected by the NCAA to host this prestigious championship," said Paul Saikia, the assistant dean for athletics and recreation. "We have experience in running large wrestling tournaments and I am sure our event staff will do a tremendous job. We're also excited to have our guys competing in front of their home crowd."

Spartan head coach Duane Bastress is also very excited to have the opportunity to showcase his team and the York College facilities.

"As a program (we) are very excited for this opportunity to host the NCAA Mideast Regional tournament," Bastress said. "It will allow us to showcase not only our top-of-the-line facility but also give our guys the opportunity to wrestle in front of our many supportive fans."

The tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. All-day tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students with a valid I.D. All tickets will be sold at the event and there will be no advance sale for the regional championship.
