The York Revolution received a strong effort from starter Alain Quijano but were unable to find the clutch hit, losing 3-1 to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Wednesday night at Regency Furniture Stadium.

The Revs fell a game behind both Southern Maryland and Sugar Land, who are now tied for first place in the Atlantic League Freedom Division second-half standings. York will look to salvage the final game of the road trip on Thursday night before returning home for Labor Day weekend.

The Crabs jumped ahead quickly when Bobby Stevens lined a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first. Quijano rebounded in impressive fashion to strike out the next three hitters. Four of his first five outs of the game came on strikeouts.

The Revs missed opportunities early in the game. The Revs stranded a runner at third in three consecutive innings, from the second through the fourth.

The Crabs built their lead, scoring once more in each the third and fourth innings. Jermaine Mitchell ripped a one-out triple in the bottom of the third and scored with two outs on a wild pitch. Then in the fourth, C.J. Ziegler singled off the base of the fence in left, advanced to second on an error, took third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by James Skelton to make it 3-0.

Quijano (10-7) allowed just three runs, only two of which were earned, over seven innings but suffered the loss.

Crabs starter Mickey Jannis was lifted after a pair of walks with one out in the sixth, but York's offensive frustrations continued when reliever Jake Hale came in to induce an inning-ending double play.

Jannis (3-0) earned the win despite issuing five walks. The right-hander allowed three hits over 5 1/3 innings. He has held the opposition scoreless over a combined 11.1 innings in his last two starts, and has held the Revs without a run over 12.1 innings in two starts against York.

The Revs got on the board in the top of the eighth. Eric Patterson led off with a double and stole third before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Bryant Nelson, but the Revs stranded two more runners in the inning and a total of 10 for the game.

Justin Berg retired the side in order in the ninth for his third save.

The Revs have lost five of their last six games after winning six of the previous seven as well as 10 of the previous 13 contests. York fell to 7-12 against Southern Maryland for the season, and just 2-7 at Regency Furniture Stadium.

York righty Jorge Martinez (6-8, 3.85) faces Southern Maryland right-hander Daryl Thompson (4-5, 5.10) in Thursday's finale at 7:05 p.m.
