Gabrielle Murphy said her future is in the local agricultural community and she is learning to be one of its leaders.

"I just want to go out and be a voice for the hard-working formers in York County," said Murphy, 21, of Airville.

Murphy will receive the Tony Dobrosky Future Leaders Award, which recognizes youths and young adults for their leadership, accomplishments and plans to continue being involved in the agricultural community.

Murphy said she is honored to receive the $500 award during the 27th annual York County Agricultural Recognition Banquet, which begins with a social at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at the Old Main Hall at York Expo Center, 334 Carlisle Road in West Manchester Township.

Murphy is a York County Dairy Promotion chairwoman and the 2011 York County Dairy Princess. She is a part-time milker at Penn View Dairy Farm in Perkasie, Bucks County.

A junior at Delaware Valley College in Bucks County, Murphy is pursuing a dual major in livestock management and dairy science. She also is active in the Collegiate Future Farmers of America and the Collegiate Farm Bureau.

Also being honored: During the recognition banquet, Hoke Mills Inc. of Abbottstown will receive the 2013 Outstanding Ag Industry Award.

It recognizes excellence in operations, customer and community service, quality products and years of positive business relationship with local farmers.

The company produces fresh feed. With the exception of oats, 100 percent of the company's grain is locally produced. Hoke Mills manufactures its own feed brand, Yorktowne Feeds.

The company's customer bases includes dairy, beef and independent swine farms in York and Adams counties.
