April is National Jazz Appreciation Month, and York City is marking the occasion with a free concert by saxophonist Tim Warfield during First Friday, 5-7 p.m. Friday in the Studio at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. George St.

The celebration continues with a jazz documentary in the Capitol Theatre, "A Great Day in Harlem." The film will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $7.

The film centers around a picture taken in August of 1958 of America's greatest jazz musicians gathered together outside a Harlem brownstone. Rare vintage clips, home movies and interviews feature nearly 30 legends like Sonny Rollins, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Count Basie, Lester Young, Thelonius Monk, Charles Mingus and Gene Krupa.
