Three teenagers who made the mistake of walking straight home after burglarizing Conewago Elementary School have been arrested, according to police, who said freshly fallen snow allowed officers to follow the burglars' footprints to one of their homes.

Northern York County Regional Police said the teens range in age from 13 to 15 and all three live near the school. They are being charged as juveniles with burglary and related offenses.

Police said the teens broke into the school, at 570 Copenhaffer Road, about 12:15 a.m. Feb. 3. They set off a burglar alarm, and officers responded.

The teens were gone when officers arrived, but they left behind a flashlight and footprints in the snow.

They told their parents they were going outside to play flashlight tag, according to police, who said it doesn't appear anything was stolen during the break-in.
