Gusty winds Tuesday night forced a work crew to abandon plans to finish setting the remaining bridge beams on the Lowther Street bridge in Lemoyne, which spans the Interstate 83/Route 581 split, PennDOT said.

The work has tentatively been rescheduled for Wednesday night, although that could also be canceled if winds continue to be gusty, according to the state Department of Transportation.

If that happens, the work will resume again Thursday night, PennDOT said.

Work will begin at 9 p.m. and end the following morning at 6 a.m.

The old bridge was demolished, and traffic currently is using a temporary bridge to cross the interstate.

Drivers can expect single-lane restrictions and possible traffic stoppages between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The $8 million project is expected to be complete by the end of May.
