Out of 260 hospitals in the state, York Hospital ranked No. 21 in a US News & World Report study released this week.
It was recognized as being high-performing in seven areas: diabetes and endocrinology; gastroenterology and G.I. surgery; geriatrics; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; pulmonology; and urology.
Four other hospitals in southcentral Pennsylvania made the list: Lancaster General Hospital, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Holy Spirit Hospital and Lancaster Regional Medical Center.
US News & World Report ranks hospitals according to physician and patient input, as well as reputation and expertise in certain specialties, according to its website. The findings are part of a national study that analyzed about 4,800 hospitals in the country.
