As a prelude to the York County Heritage Trust's 39th annual Oyster Festival, the Trust is partnering with YorKitchen to present "Shucks - an Oyster Cookoff!" from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at York's Central Market.

The cookoff gives local cooks an opportunity to enter an oyster recipe for consideration by a panel of judges.

Out of all entries, three finalists will be chosen to pit their wits and their skills against their competitors in a live demonstration at the Rojahn Performance Kitchen at Central Market. The winner will be chosen that morning, and the top three will win cash prizes of $150, $100, and $50.

Official rules of the contest are available at

The 39th annual Oyster Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Trust's Agricultural & Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St., York.

At the event, oysters are served stewed, nude and fried, along with many other food items including steamed shrimp, BBQ sandwiches, homemade chicken corn soup, macaroni and cheese, a huge bake sale by the Trust Auxiliary, and beer, wine, and sodas.
